A Fair-Weather Runner's Perspective on Cold-Weather Running

1. You wish you would have trusted the thermometer. It's usually right.

2. You finally realize just how bad your 2008 running playlist really is when your fingers are too frozen to switch songs. You decide you will immediately fix this if you survive.

3. You are especially appreciative of people who used salt on their sidewalks, and are silently cursing those who didn't. And then you remember you didn't even shovel your own sidewalk...You retract prior judgment.

4. You wonder why running isn't an event in the Sochi Winter Olympics. Then, by deductive reasoning, you decide you are probably stronger than Olympian runners. Also, all those cars that didn't start in the cold weather? You're probably stronger than them too.

5. You are fairly/hopefully sure that all the bad guys are probably/definitely indoors and not hiding behind trees.

6. When the man at the bus stop blows smoke in your face as you run by, you don't think "that was mean," but instead, "what a thoughtful gesture of warmth."

7. You are running at a snail's pace. Sure, snails don't have legs, but to be fair, you haven't been able to feel your legs for awhile so you're not entirely sure you do either.

8. Your phone dies halfway through because it's too cold. Not only can you not listen to your sub-par playlist, but you will have to guess your distance. Since you don't feel right about crossing "7 miles" off your to-do list without having actually ran 7 miles, you later drive it. When your car tells you you ran 7.3 miles, you decide that's good, because now you're warm and were gonna cross it off your list anyway.
